MCCANDLESS, Pa. —
One woman and multiple dogs were rescued from a burning home on Park Edge Drive in McCandless on Sunday evening. Several fire departments were called to the scene around 4 p.m. Sunday after a woman frantically called 911.
“A female at home called and said she had a fire in the house and then they lost contact with her,” said Chief Matt Williams, Peebles District VFC.
Chief Matt Williams of the Peebles District VFC was on scene within three minutes and said he heard a woman inside screaming for help.
“I couldn’t find the female,” he said. “We opened up several doors and I was able to hear the female inside, about 50-60 feet inside the door yelling for help. I ran inside, grabbed her and pulled her out.”
Williams said the woman was pinned on the ground while trying to save her dogs.
“She was trapped,” he said. “There are a lot of hoarding conditions inside the home. We’ve had issues at this house before. A lot of dogs.”
The homeowner told firefighters there were 17 dogs inside the home. 9 are unaccounted for. The remaining were rescued and put in shelters for the night.
The woman was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
