GIBSONIA, Pa. (KNNP) – On or around the early morning of Wednesday, August 7th, the KNNP-TV website and associated social media profiles were hijacked from an overseas news editorial attack.
Parent company of KNNP-TV Ltd., News Now Pittsburgh, initiated investigations around the early morning hours of 5:30 a.m. to disassoicate all social media profiles maintained by News Now Pittsburgh and to terminate any remote inbound internet connections. The attacks were stopped by 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Since then, the attacks were linked to a series of nationwide attacks on large news networks utilizing the WordPress CMS software, which maintains the entire website publishing matters for several corporations, including CBS News, USA Today, New York Post, Spotify, The SUN, TED, Time Magazine, Facebook, CNN, Down Jones, People, Microsoft, and CapitalOne.
WordPress, which was created by Automattic, could not comment on the incident that happened.
As of 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, KNNP-TV Pittsburgh has a lunched a new and user-interactive website with stricter security protocols.
