(KNNP) Imagine picking up your phone in an emergency, and the line is dead. That is what is happening nationwide with Cox Communications, and they cannot fix it.
The outage, which was reported hours ago, is leaving a majority of Cox customers without phone and internet in some regions. Police departments in Rhode Island are panicking because their residents are unable to dial 911 if needed. When customers would dial into 911, they would recieve a busy line. This issue was plauged to the county court system, schools, and hospitals.
Cox responded to a press inquiry with, “As you know, we are currently experiencing an outage that is impacting our business customers in certain areas throughout our Rhode Island footprint. Our technology teams both here and at our corporate campus in Atlanta are working to resolve the issue expediently. I will provide further information to you as soon as it becomes available.”
Many Louisiana police departments are unable to receive 911 calls as well, which is leaving officers to stage on city blocks waiting for someone to come up to them to report an incident.
There is no ETA of when this issue can be resolved nationally. Cities affected include Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Mobile, New Orleans, Rhode Island state, and Oklahoma City.
