Big chain stores such as CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and a couple of others are cracking down on open carry. The question is though, why is this such a big issue?
According to the bigwigs, it is because it makes people feel uneasy. Imagine seeing a large handun attached to somebody in line at the grocery store. What goes through your mind?
If that makes you feel uneasy, it’s working. We’ll talk about that in a moment.
The open carry of a firearm is designed to send a message to would be attackers. “You are not the only one in here with a gun, so don’t think about it.”
A gun attached to your hip and easily accessible is a deterrent. If somebody sees that, they know that you are ready to take action if it is needed.
So what about those that feel nervous around a firearm?
Those that are concerned about a gun being on somebody have that response because sub-conciously, they know that this person has to be prepared for a gunfight because that’s a real possibility in the United States.
The freedom to carry a firearm has very limited restrictions. Just like any right you have, somebody will inevitably abuse it.
When people abuse any right, somebody gets hurt. The issue is, when somebody abuses their gun rights, we’re talking about serious bodily harm, not legal or emotional harm.
People who open carry serve a purpose to keep the general public safe and they take it upon themselves to do it for free. They are however willing to use that weapon to create a visual deterrent as an added bonus.
Therefore, Walmart, CVS and Walgreens have just eliminated one of the biggest anti-violence deterrents they could have possibly imagined.
That is dangerous and it is dangerous because although we cannot open carry into a store, a criminal cares not. They will bring a weapon into a public place to do harm anyways.
They are a criminal. They’re breaking the laws in place. That is the whole reason they’re classified as a criminal to begin with. This should be obvious.
