(KNNP) – A newstip into our newsroom is revealing details about how the University of Mobile in Alabama is taking steps to silence concerns from current and former students on Facebook.
This morning, an anonymous former student talked with us and says that the University is deleting; and has for a long time been deleting concerns and reviews related to the University’s food safety.
In particular, this student says that his concerns were cited by the college as “a deterrent for other students and the families of students considering this University.”
“I was told a few things that go against everything I understand about my freedoms as a student here.
Number one, that this complaint drove away a student considering the University, which is obvious since the food issue is a hazard, and number two, that it was somehow against their policy that I criticize the school, and that there would be consequenses related to this in the future. That’s not ok at all. That’s my freedom of speech right there”Anonymous Former Student
Our wittness has explained that on the first complaint while the student was attending, he was summoned to the office via cellphone and shown screenshots of the comment which he affirmed were his own.
They advised him that the post was deleted, for it had already deterred a student from the University and also stated that they agreed with the concern, would take action on the concern and would be deleting the post.
Months later, the University would do this a second time, blocking the Facebook of the student and blocking other accounts related to other students addressing other concerns also about food poisoning and patchy Wireless Internet access.
University of Mobile in Alabama is a private, Christian University serving students in the mobile area and accepting other students from outside of the area as well.
The University is not open for comment and the now former student has declined to self identify.
