MARSHALL TWP, Pa. (KNNP) – The second fatal vehicle accident recently claimed a life happened early Friday morning, according to official police sources.
In a phone interview with an unnamed police officer, an unidentified 53-year-old man was driving a Mercury Mountaineer on Thorn Hill Road when he merged on to Route 19.
As the driver merged, he drover underneath of a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured, according to police.
As rescue crews attempted to extricate the victim, they had learned he passed away in the vehicle.
According to PennDOT and the 511 portal, Route 19 was closed and major backups occurred in the rush-hour of Friday traffic.
Route 19 was closed from the Warrendale-Bayne Road intersection, and tot he Freeport Road intersection.
The crash reportedly occurred around 1:40 a.m. and Route 19 was reopened to normal traffic around 5:30 a.m.
